Parliament will debate on the current situation in the country and the Fiscal Responsibility (Amendment) Bill when it meets today, Serjeant-at-Arms Narendra Fernando said yesterday.

Parliament meets four times every other week under normal circumstances.

Mr. Fernando told Daily Mirror that the debate on the Fiscal Responsibility (Amendment) Bill will take place from 10 am to noon. The adjournment debate on the current situation will take place from then onwards until 4.30 pm.
It has also been decided not to have an oral question session and a lunch interval during today’s sessions.
He said sessions were confined to one day during this parliamentary week due to the current pandemic situation. The decision to confine sessions was made at the party leaders’ meeting held yesterday. “All necessary measures have been taken to ensure the safety of all MPs and others in Parliament where the pandemic is concerned,” Mr. Fernando said.

It was reported earlier that ten members of the staff at the Opposition Leader’s office and ten police officers attached to Parliament police division were tested COVID-19 positive.
