The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday postponed for May 27 to deliver its judgment in respect of two cases filed against Shashi Weerawansa, the wife of National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader and former Minister Wimal Weerawansa.

This is over an incident where Mrs. Weerawansa had fraudulently obtained two passports including a diplomatic passport by submitting forged documents to the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
The two cases were to be taken up for delivery of the judgment yesterday. However, Colombo Additional Magistrate Shalini Perera decided to postpone the cases to be taken up before the permanent Magistrate on May 27.

The CID had filed two separate charge sheets against Shashi Weerawansa that she had fraudulently obtained two passports including a diplomatic passport by submitting forged documents to the Department of Immigration and Emigration.

The CID had commenced an investigation against Shashi Weerawansa over the charge of obtaining diplomatic and general passports illegally. She had allegedly submitted birth certificates with forged names and dates of birth to obtain those passports. She is currently out on bail.

The court has already concluded recording evidence from both prosecution and defence regarding this incident.
