Pension scheme for expatriate workers to be introduced - Labour Minister

Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara said that a special pension scheme for expatriate workers will be introduced within the next few weeks.   

The Minister instructed the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau to take necessary steps to implement the pension scheme immediately. Accordingly, this pension scheme will be introduced with the support of the Sri Lanka Social Security Board.  


The Minister also stated that the workers legally registered with the Foreign Employment Bureau and leaving for foreign employment would have the opportunity to claim this pension.  


Through the pension scheme the expatriate workers will have the opportunity to pay premiums in foreign currency. If an employee dies while paying the assistance, the appropriate compensation will be paid by the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau. Thereafter, the benefits will be delivered to the respective legally eligible to enjoy it.   
Through this pension scheme expatriate workers can get a pension ranging from twenty thousand rupees to Rs.100,000.
