Some of the people who have received COVID -19 vaccines have been charged Rs 1,000, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka told Parliament yesterday.

While stating that many who had to pay this amount have informed him about it, Field Marshal Fonseka said this situation should be probed.

“We don’t have any intention of sabotaging the government’s vaccine programme but we want to see that it is done in an effective manner,” he said.

“There have been instances where civilians wearing gold chains and unbuttoned shirts
have been provided with the vaccine at Field Force Headquarters in Colombo.
