The Peradeniya University administration has decided not to resume academic activities in the Law Department of the arts faculty until the student union promised in writing to refrain from clashes.

Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof. Prabhath Ekanayake told the media yesterday that the faculty was closed and the students were allowed to continue their academic activities online expecting an assurance from the student union that it would not assault the students who refrain from ragging and that they would be allowed to use all sections of the faculty without any obstacle.

“However the student union has not yet shown a positive response. The students are in a dire situation due to intimidations. The faculty would not reopen until they bring about a settlement by giving an assurance as expected to refrain from clashes,” Prof. Ekanayake further said.
