A permanent budget office will be set up in Parliament to assist the MPs and committees in the preparation for debates on finance related bills and regulations, an official said.  Chairman of the Public Finance Committee of the current Parliament Dr. Harsha de Silva told Daily Mirror he would take initiatives for the establishment of such an office with a permanent staff comprising experts in the field.

He said finance bills and regulations were technical matters warranting consultation of experts for the MPs to get a better and comprehensive viewpoint.

“I don’t want anyone to attend the committee meetings without a proper analysis and evidence of the subject matter under discussion,” he said.
