The State Minister for Finance, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said the permit system previously required for the import of wheat flour has been abolished as of midnight on Tuesday.
Speaking to the media in Ruwanwella last morning, Siyambalapitiya said the tax on imported wheat flour will be increased from Rs. 16 to Rs. 27 per kg, and an additional tax of Rs. 6 will be imposed on wheat kernels.
The State Minister further clarified that despite these changes, there will be no increase in the price of wheat flour in the local market. The main objective of these measures is to implement import controls on wheat flour, he said.
