• National Water Supply and Drainage Board assures that water supplied undergoes a thorough purification process before being provided to consumers

Responding to images circulated oIn a statement, the NWSDB clarified that the pipelines depicted in the pictures are from Thailand, not Sri Lanka.   

The images are being falsely linked to the incident of the transmission pipeline bursting from the Kalatuwawa treatment plant on June 17. Following the pipeline burst, water supply was interrupted for thousands of households in multiple areas.  

However, there is no connection between the transmission pipeline burst and the images circulating on social media.  

Furthermore, the NWSDB assured that the water supplied by the National Water Supply and Drainage Board undergoes a thorough purification process before being provided to consumers. It is regularly tested in laboratories and meets all relevant standards.  

Meanwhile, it warned of proceeding with legal actions against those involved in circulating the false images and thereby panicking the public. n social media depicting a water pipeline filled with gunk, claimed to be in Sri Lanka, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) denied the existence of such pipelines in Sri Lanka.
