A girl aged 11 years has died on Wednesday after strangling on a piece of ‘Chintz’ fabric while she was playing with her sister, Kotawila Police said.
The deceased child was identified as Dankoluwa Liyanage Chathumi Nisalka from Henwala, Mirissa who was a student of St. Thomas’ Girls’ High School, Matara. She had joined St. Thomas’ Girls’ High School after she had passed the grade five scholarship examination and had been studying in grade six. She had worn sarees and pieces of chintz fabric to act as a teacher and a grandmother in front of her sister.
She had been playing with her seven year old sister in the next room while her elder brother had been studying with their mother in the other room. She has informed her mother not to come to the room as she used to laugh at her acting.
Later her sister has informed the mother that the deceased was lying down without speaking. By then she had difficulty breathing as she already had the piece of fabric strangled around her neck. She has been admitted to Matara General Hospital, where she has received treatment in the ICU but later passed away.
