P’ment mourns death of Queen Elizabeth

Parliament paid tributes to Queen of Britain and Head of Commonwealth Elizabeth the second by observing two minutes silence yesterday.  

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardene who proposed the observing of two minutes silence requested for a special condolence vote in the House on another day.  


 “ Sri Lanka Parliament expresses its grief at the demise of Queen Elizabeth who is also the head of Commonwealth. We propose that Parliament takes up a special condolence vote on an agreed date,” he said.   
Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella who expressed condolence on behalf of the Opposition said the late Queen has won the heart of all people in the world.” We express the condolences of the Opposition,” he said.  However there were only ten members present at the time the tribute was paid to the Queen by observing two minute silence.
