Police intelligence officer who took photos of AKD assaulted by onlookers

A police intelligence officer in civvies taking photos of National People’s Power (NPP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake at a rally in Kurunegala had been assaulted by some participants on June 2.  

It is reported that the police officer fled the scene, boarded a jeep and sped away for safety. Mr. Dissanayake attended the rally between 6.00 pm and 6.30 pm. The police officer was reportedly assaulted when he tried to take shots of Mr. Dissanayake when he arrived near the stage.  

Some persons, reportedly looking after security of Mr. Dissanayake, had developed suspicion about the activities of the police officer who did not disclose his identity, according to an eyewitness.
