Police protection of former Deputy Minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama withdrawn

Police protection given to former Deputy Minister Nishantha Mutuhettigama has been withdrawn from yesterday (31), Police said.

Although Mutuhettigama had lost his position as a member of parliament, two police constables attached to the Galle Police were assigned to him as per his request due to threats he received, the police media spokesman said.
The decision had been taken after a jeep, owned by the former deputy minister Muthuhettigama, was found to be illegally imported by him on duty-free basis the vehicle was impounded by the Police recently. It is reported that the vehicle had been imported while  Muthuhettigama was functioning as the deputy minister of Ports.
