Police sergeant killed, another injured in road accident

A police sergeant was killed and another injured when a tipper truck knocked them down while inspecting vehicles at the Gal Oya checkpoint on the Habarana-Trincomalee Road last night.

The tragedy occurred when the tipper truck that went out of control hit a police sergeant, a lorry and a car.
The police sergeant succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to the Habarana Hospital.

A woman and a four-month-old infant who were in the car, another police officer and the driver of the lorry were admitted to the Habarana Hospital and later transferred to the Dambulla Hospital.

The deceased has been identified as a 56-year-old resident of Kantale. The driver of the tipper truck was arrested in connection with the accident.
