Political parties sign joint statement against postponing LG polls

A large number of MPs and members of political parties have placed their signatures to a joint statement alleging that the government is trying to postpone the local government elections in the guise of amending the local government electoral system.  

 The SJB, SLFP, groups led by MP Wimal Weerawansa, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Dullas Alhapperuma, 43rd brigade and other parties which do not represent Parliament, including Frontline Socialist Party, placed their signatures at the Committee room seven in the Parliamentary complex this afternoon, according to a statement issued by the Opposition Leader’s office. These parties are also expected to educate the international community, the religious leaders and civil society on the situation.
