Power blackout: CEB senior engineers suspect sabotage

  • Calls for an investigation
  • Power disruption took place at a time when the CEB Engineers’ Union had launched a work to rule campaign

The Ceylon Electricity Board Senior Engineers’ Association (CEBSEA)  said yesterday it suspected last Friday’s power blackout as an act of sabotage.

Its President Dr. M. Wijekoon told a news conference that the blackout took place in a manner that raised many an eyebrow.

He said power disruptions were experienced in several parts of the country on November 29.
Dr. Wijekoon said suspicion had been raised about both instances. The CEBSEA called for an investigation into them as a result.

He said the blackout affected the economy enormously. Also, he said even the ultracold chain facilities in the healthcare system were compromised in the event of power disruption.

Power disruption took place at a time when the CEB Engineers’ Union had launched a work to rule campaign.
