President Ranil Wickremesinghe retains cabinet of fmr. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa



President Ranil Wickremesinghe retained the cabinet which was formed by his predecessor Gotabaya Rajapaksa, but said it is an interim cabinet.   


However it has been assured that an all-party government will be formed later. One exception was the exclusion of Professor G. L. Peiris who was the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the previous cabinet. The portfolio was given to MP Ali Sabry this time.  

 

The new Prime Minister Dinesh Gunwawardene was appointed as the Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Local Government and Provincial Councils, Douglas Devananda as Minister of Fisheries, Susil Premajayantha as Minister of Education, Bandula Ginawardene as Minister 0f Transport and Media, Keheliya Rambukwella as the Minister of Health and Water Resources, Mahinda Amaraweera as Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Wildlife, Wijeyadasa Rajapakse as the Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms, Harin Fernando as Minister of Lands and Tourism, Dr. Ramesh Pathirana as Minister of Plantation Industries, Prasanna Ranatunga Urban Development and Housing, Vidura Wickramanayake as Minister of Buddhasasana, Cultural Affairs and Religious Affairs, Kanchana Wijesekera as Minister of Power and Energy, Naseer Ahamed Minister of Environment, Roshan Ranasinghe as Minister of Sports, Youth Affairs and Irrigation, Manusha Nanayakkara as Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, Tiran Alles as Public Security and Nalin Fernando as Minister if Trade, Commerce and Food Security.  


The interim cabinet comprises 18 members while it is anticipated that the new cabinet which will be appointed after the formation of an all party government may increase.
