The Constitutional Council (CC) failed to reach a consensus on the granting of a permanent appointment to acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon yesterday because of differences of opinion among its members, Daily Mirror learns.
When the matter was taken, four menders were in support of the appointment of him as the permanent IGP. However, two members voted against the move and two others abstained.
The case was deferred till next week as a result.
However, Deshabandu Tennakoon received the letter of his permanent appointment as the 36th Inspector General of Police(IGP) from the Secretary to the President yesterday evening.
