President leaves for Singapore for medical check-up

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa left for Singapore early yesterday to undergo a medical check-up, his first private visit for a medical examination since he underwent extensive heart surgery in May 2019, the Daily Mirror learns.   
Political sources said the President is expected to undergo a check-up at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital where he underwent surgery. 

Many in the government were unaware of the visit till after the President had left the island.   


He is expected to return in three days. Hours before leaving the country, Rajapaksa prorogued Parliament till January 18 next year.
