Prez to make special statement on 13A

President Ranil Wickremesinghe is to make a special statement with regard to the 13th Amendment in Parliament next week, a statement from the UNP said yesterday.  
“President Wickremesinghe will explain how all powers will be devolved to provincial councils except for police powers,” the statement said.   

“The President had assured that all proposals pertaining to strengthen the 13th Amendment would be presented to the House for its approval” it added. Also the statement said different opinions of Tamil political parties is an impediment for the implementation of the 13th Amendment.   

The statement comes around two weeks after the conclusion of the all party conference called by the President to discuss the implementation of the 13th Amendment.
