The human remains of Priyantha Kumara, the Sri Lankan Export Manager who was brutally killed by a mob in Sialkot, Pakistan on Friday, arrived in Colombo yesterday evening on a Sri Lankan Airlines flight from Lahore. Priyantha’s remains upon arriving at the BIA, was transferred into an ambulance and taken to the Negombo Hospital where an autopsy will be conducted.
Priyantha’s wife, Nilushi told Daily Mirror that following the autopsy, his remains will be handed over to the family later today in a sealed coffin. A funeral will then be held according to the family’s wishes.
Priyantha’s brutal massacre by a mob in Sialkot has sent shockwaves throughout Sri Lanka and Pakistan with Prime Minister Imran Khan convening a high-level meeting in Islamabad yesterday to discuss the country’s overall security situation and severely condemning the cruel murder of Priyantha in broad daylight, the Daily Mirror learns.
Sources said that all those who participated in the meeting were of the view to implement a comprehensive strategy to curb such incidents and strictly punish the perpetrators of Priyantha’s murder.
According to Pakistani Police, so far 131 people accused to be involved in the murder have been arrested since Friday out of which 26 are alleged to have played a prime role in the massacre.
Pakistani sources told Daily Mirror that within the last 12 hours police had arrested seven more people, including the most wanted accused Imtiaz alias Billi who was also involved in torturing Priyantha.
Nilushi has urged the Pakistani government for a thorough investigation into her husband’s killing and has urged both the Sri Lankan and Pakistani governments not to sweep her husband’s murder under the carpet.
She has demanded for answers and justice and compensation over Priyantha’s chilling death.
Meanwhile, Priyantha’s colleague Malik Adnan who tried to shelter and save Priyantha from the mob will be awarded the highest bravery award in Pakistan today afternoon by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
