Probe initiated after leopard found dead at Norton Bridge

Police began an investigation after a carcass of a Sri Lankan leopard (Panthera pardus) was found killed in a tea estate in Norton Bridge.


Police said the leopard had injuries in two areas in its back and a pierce wound through its flesh near the front right leg.


The Nallathanniya Wildlife office has estimated the leopard to be around 6 years of age and is a species native to Sri Lanka.


The carcass was taken to the Rantambe Wildlife Veterinary Office for a post-mortem.
