• Says external forces behind the crisis created by ragging

Vice Chancellor of Peradeniya University Pro. M.D.Lamahewa said immediate probe should be initiated to find the forces that instigate ragging in the university. He told the media on Thursday (13) that the prevailing situation was a clear indication that external forces were behind the crisis created by ragging.

 “Any problem would not crop if the students strictly adhere to the rules and regulations applicable to ragging.  However, the students who violated this requirement would be liable for legal action. 

 
Human rights of university teachers, students or anyone visiting the university should be protected and drastic action under the law had to be taken against any individual or group violating this requirement. Human rights should be protected in the university and in society as well.” He said.

Prof. Lamahewa further said the Vice Chancellors and the Deans of faculties have often been accused of failing to prevent ragging in universities.
