Protest held outside Hirunika’s house for protesting against GR

A group of people staged a protest outside the house of former parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra in Malabe on Saturday night.

The protest took place a few hours after the Samagi Vanitha Balawegaya led by Hirunika staged a protest outside President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's residence in Mirihana on Saturday.

The Samagi Vanitha Balawegaya staged a protest with regard to the rising cost of living and called for solutions to a number of issues including power cuts and shortage of essential goods.

The protest commenced near Mirihana Junction and later the group made its way to the President’s house to hand over a letter.  Hours after the protest, former MP Premachandra in a Facebook video claimed that she had learnt that preparations were underway to stage a protest outside her residence in retaliation to the protest held outside the President's house.

She said her three young children were inside the house and that if the mob caused at least a slight damage to her children or house, she would not hesitate to take the matter before the international community in Geneva.
