Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday said he managed to avert a blood bath which the government wanted during the protest on Wednesday.

“Government and others wanted us to create violence at the protest in Colombo on Wednesday but I managed to calm people who participated in the march. Thus I managed to achieve a great victory as the plans of our opponents failed,” he said.

“Some adviced me not to participate and send only my MPs to the protest but I participated in it as I want to lead from the front,” he said.

Meanwhile SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara said some groups which were backed by the government behaved somewhat aggressively at the protest. “Some groups backed by the government created a few incidents at the protest,” he said.

Madduma Bandara said media has not acted in a responsible manner when reporting on Wednesday.
