• A group including a SLPP member of the Kandy MC carried out this attack using poles

A group of ten people have attacked the protesters at the protest site at GotaGoGama in front of the George E de Silva Park in Kandy.    

Eyewitnesses said that a group of people including a SLPP member of the Kandy Municipal Council had carried out this attack using poles.   

Former JVP MP Dimuthu Abeykoon has been admitted to Kandy National Hospital after receiving wounds, according to hospital sources. People at the protest site said that even though the protest site was only 100 metres away from the Kandy Police Headquarters, the Police had arrived thirty minutes later.   

Hospital sources also said that a large number of staff members of the Kandy National Hospital have withdrawn from their duties and come out of the hospital protesting against this attack.
