Protestors cause damage to property in A’pura



 

  • More than 300 protestors had first gathered in front of State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe’s residence at Anuradhapura

A group of protestors in the early hours of last morning had stormed the residences of ministers representing Anuradhapura District and caused damage to property. 

Police said more than 300 protestors had first gathered in front of State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe’s residence at Anuradhapura Airport Road on Monday night and staged protest till early hours of last morning and attacked the house. 


Later they had pelted stones at the residences of State Ministers Duminda Dissanayaka, Channa Jayasumana, Minister of Land S.M. Chandrasena, and Anuradhapura Mayor H.P. Somadasa and caused extensive damage to property. 


The protestors had caused damage to the SLPP office in Anuradhapaura town and destroyed the banners, cutouts and posters carrying the portrays of ministers and the ruling party parliamentarians. 


Police said the ministers concerned were away from home at the time of the attack. 


The house of the astrologer and soothsayer called “Gnanakka” supporting the SLPP had come under attack. Police brought the situation under control with great difficulty and enhanced security in the area.
