The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has identified the air quality in the Puttalam District region as unsuitable for sensitive groups.

Thirteen other Districts had been found to have acceptable air quality, the NBRO said.

“Colombo 7, Jaffna, Kurunegala, Vavuniya, Kandy, Kegalle, Galle, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura, Embilipitiya, Badulla, Kalutara, Hambantota, and Polonnaruwa are categorized as moderate,” an official said.

The official defined the “moderate category” as having a moderate health concern for a very limited number of people, who are unusually sensitive to air pollution.
Vavuniya, Trincomalee, Mullaithivu, Batticaloa, and Kalutara Districts are categorized under the “Good” category, which is considered satisfactory where air pollution poses little or no risk.
