Railway officer dies after being pushed off train

A railway security officer who was pushed out of a moving train at Wandurawa in Weyangoda by an unruly passenger under the influence of liquor died at the scene.   


The security officers on duty on the Jaffna bound night mail on Friday night (22) had warned two passengers who were consuming liquor and obstructing the duty of ticket examiners, to refrain from consuming liquor in the train.  

The two men had assaulted the security officers and kicked one of them out of the train. The security officer Shirley Luxman Dissanayake (52)who died in the incident was from Oruthota in Gampaha. He was father of two children. He had been a band master of the Railway Security Service band in addition to his normal duties.  


The passengers had brought the two men under control and handed them over to the police when the train halted at the Meerigama railway station.
