President Ranil Wickremesinghe was in a quandary whether to announce the presidential election or general elections first as all surveys have revealed that the National People’s Power (NPP) had a better chance ahead of other parties, NPP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said yesterday.

Speaking at the Galle Women’s Convention, he said that the rulers had no hesitancy in announcing presidential or general elections on earlier occasions and that the rulers were in a quandary about which election to announce first on this occasion.

He said the NPP was ready to face any of the two elections.

Dissanayake said power should be transferred to a new group that could take the country in a new direction.

“Even the rival groups are certain that the NPP can form a government. The NPP and the JVP have been the subject in all rival political meetings. They earlier claimed that the JVP can never form a government. Now, they have started to say that the NPP cannot run a government,” he said.
