Ranjan fails to appear in court over ‘money for marriage’ case

  • The magistrate severely reprimanded the surety to the suspect’s bail bond who was present in court

An arrest warrant was issued by Kandy Additional Magistrate Mohamed Rafi yesterday on former Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayaka who was not present in court when a case against him was called.  

The Additional Magistrate ordered the Kandy Crime Investigation Division to produce the suspect Ranjan Ramanayake in court.   


The former parliamentarian is suspected to have obtained Rs.1 million from a lady teacher in Kandy, promising to marry her and the Kandy Crime Investigation Division that investigated the incident had filed action against him.  


The magistrate severely reprimanded the surety to the suspect’s bail bond who was present in court.
