Ranjan permitted to pursue external degree

Former parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake, who is currently in jail, has been granted permission to pursue higher education from prison, the Prisons Department said.   

Prison spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said the former MP has requested permission from the Department to pursue higher education.  


Accordingly, he has been granted permission by the Department of Prisons to pursue an External Degree Course in Youth and Community Development at the Open University of Nawala, subject to existing rules and regulations.  


The spokesman said that Ramanayake will be allowed to study subjects related to the degree, online, through the Zoom technology.
