Former MP Ranjan Ramanayake is to be released either today or on Monday Minister Harin Fernando said yesterday.

“ Ranjan Ramanayake will be released either today or on Monday August 29 2019 on the request which was made by him and myself along with many others to President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

I would like to thank Minister of Justice Wijedasa Rajapakshe who worked tirelessly to make it happen.

“I am ecstatic about his release,” Minister Fernando said in his release.

Minister Manusha Nanayakkara also had a similar post on his facebook where he thanked everyone who worked towards his release.

Ramanayake had apparently tendered an apology for committing contempt of court twice. He had accordingly stated that he wishes to tender an apology and that he withdraws all statements he had made referring to courts. Also he had said he will not repeat such offences again.
He was found guilty of contempt of court in 2021.
