Former MP Ranjan Ramanayake who was imprisoned for contempt of court and granted pardon is likely to shift sides and contest for the General Election from a new party if his civic rights are restored.
Mr. Ramanayake told Daily Mirror that he will contemplate contesting the General Election from a new party. “I have met some experts and had asked for civic rights. I will contest the General Election if I am given civic rights. A poll card was delivered to me before the Presidential election but I could not vote as I had to travel abroad. I will inquire from the Election Commission whether I could contest and will do so if the commission gives the green light,” he said.
Few parties have invited me to contest the election and I will consider all these invitations,” he said.
