While urging the Government to reconsider the fuel price increace, Parliamentarian Prof. Tissa Vitharana said yesterday the annual revenue license fee on commercial vehicles should be reduced while increacing the annual revenue licence fee on luxury vehicles to mitigate the impact on the public.
He told Parliament that the fuel price increase had resulted in an increase in the cost of living, as all transport costs have increased after the fuel price hike.
He proposed that the annual revenue license fee of the commercial vehicles such as buses, lorries and three-wheelers should be increased to mitigate the impact on the common man.
He said the annual revenue license fee of the luxury vehicles should be increased at least by Rs. 50,000 to Rs.100,000 to cover up the loss of the state revenue due to the decrease of licence fee of the commercial vehicles.
The MP said train service which was less cost-effective should be developed and used for transport of goods.
