Samagi Jana Balawegaya ( SJB) is to request IMF to act on its claim that it will condition the loan to Sri Lanka on Government taking credible action to reduce corruption vulnerabilities, SJB MP Harsha De Silva said yesterday.   “The aragalaya was about taking action against those who committed economic crimes on our people.

The UNHRC also made recommendations re dealing with those who committed such economic crimes. Now the Govt. is saying nothing happened and none of the UNHRC conclusions are valid and all recommendations are rejected. Is the IMF going to ignore this total breakdown of governance? Where is the IMF governance report? Why is it hidden? We will raise these issues with the IMF, “he added.

“ Hamilton Reserve Bank matter is a component of economic crimes” he said.   It was revealed that Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and a few SJB MPs are to meet the IMF team which is due to arrive in Sri Lanka shortly.

He said a probe should be conducted to determine who had repurchased Sri Lankan bonds from Hamilton Reserve Bank and who had given it an undertaking that Sri Lanka will settle the bonds.

Meanwhile MP Wickramaratne called for placing the EPF under a new independent body and thus remove it from the purview of Central Bank.
