Reducing prices of essential goods only for three months is a shameless act. UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene said over the weekend.
Addressing two meetings of UNP activists in Gampaha and Colombo on Saturday, Mr Wijewardene questioned as to whether the government is able to provide relief for the high cost of living only for a period of three months.
“I read in the papers that the government has decided to provide essential goods at a low price for a period of three months. Most essential items are only going to be sold at Sathosa. This is a shameless thing as the government can provide relief for the people only for three months. Besides, people are being affected in many ways. We have heard that the schools will be opened soon. However, parents are forced to provide online education for their children until then. The issue is that most of the parents cannot afford to pay for the data usage,” Mr. Wijewardene said.
“There is a great demand for a UNP voice today especially in Parliament. We are first watching the happenings in Parliament. We will appoint a national list MP at the right time,”
he added. “UNP will start up reorganisation at constituency level soon. Our target is to complete reorganisation of the UNP within six months. We will achieve this target.
