Relatives beat 55-year-old man to death for having affair with teenager

At least six suspects have been arrested after they tied a 55-year-old man to a tree and assaulted him to death at Uduvil in Chunnakam for having an affair with a 19-year-old girl.   

Police said officers of the Chunnakam police rushed to the scene following information, and the person who was tied to a tree and attacked was freed and admitted to the Thelippalai Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.   


Investigations into the incident have revealed that the deceased, a mason from Jaffna, had been involved in a romantic relationship with the 19-year-old girl, who resides in the Chunnakam area. The man would often visit the girl’s house, where he used to consume toddy.  


The police have confirmed that the victim was married and had two children. He was employed in the Chunnakam area, where he maintained his relationship with the girl.  
Police said the assault was carried out by a group of individuals associated with the girl, who were offended by the relationship.  
The suspects also reportedly assaulted the girl, who is currently undergoing treatment at Thelippalai Hospital.

  
The arrested individuals, aged 23, 24, 38, 46, and 48, are residents of the Chunnakam area.  


After being produced in court, they have been remanded in custody.
