The Immigration and Emigration authorities at Mattala and Katunayaka International Airports were ordered to prevent former ASP Sanjeewa Mahanama , suspected of shooting at the official vehicle transporting former Parliamentarian Uddika Premaratne, from leaving the country again. The restraining order on the Immigration and Emigration Department was issued by Anuradhapura Addl. District Judge and Chief Magistrate Nalaka Sanjeewa Jayasuriya.

The CID investigators told police that the suspect who had left the country after the incident had returned and that they had receiving information on the possibility of his leaving the country again. The case was called before the magistrate on a motion filed by the CID.

They informed police that they visited the suspect’s house in Kandy to arrest him but he was not available and that they had not yet received any information on his whereabouts.

The judge ordered police to conduct further investigations and to submit the report.

The suspect’s request for anticipatory bail had been rejected earlier by Anuradhapura Addl. Magistrate Manodi Hewwawasam.
