The Ministry of Education has prepared a new revised circular for the admission of students to grade one in 2023, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said yesterday.

Accordingly, the school admission boards will ensure the full authenticity of documents submitted by parents when they apply for admission to schools of their siblings.

The cabinet on Monday approved a request made by Minister Premajayantha to revise the circular for school admission to grade one based on facts submitted by various parties including the Principals, circular revision committee, the investigation division of the Education Ministry, Bribery and Corruption Commission as well as the Elections Commission and the committee’s decisions.

Accordingly, there will be a 1% increase of admission for children of parents of Education Service while a reduction of 1% on brother-sister basis for grade one.

Minister Premajayantha pointed out that the school admission for Grade one on the basis of a brother or sister studying at the same school was not as high as other categories.

“Therefore, School Admission boards sometimes admit students from distances exceeding the stipulated distance of two kilometres,” Minister Premajayantha said.
