A spike in Covid cases within the next couple of days is inevitable due to the irresponsible conduct of people during the last ten to 15 days, Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr.  Hemantha Herath said.

Dr. Herath told a media briefing held at the Health Promotion Bureau yesterday that the damage done by the present Covid situation could neither be rectified in another one or two days.

“It takes time because it is a consequence of the people’s irresponsible behaviour 10 to 15 days ago,” he said.

“What should be done is to make sure Covid practices are strictly observed in order to prevent a further rise in cases in the future,” Dr Herath added.

He stressed the importance of adhering to health guidelines and rules when venturing outside.
