The Prisons Department has also initiated an investigation into the alleged death threats made by MP Rishad Bathiudeen at a prison doctor.

Earlier, the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) launched an investigation into an incident in which former Minister Bathiudeen, who has been remanded in connection with the Easter Sunday attack, allegedly threatened a doctor at the prison hospital on August 15.

Following a complaint lodged with the IGP by the Commissioner General of Prisons, the CCD on the orders of the IGP summoned the doctor to record a statement on Sunday.  Prisons Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said that the investigation will also be carried out by the Prisons Department under an Assistant Superintendent of Prison. He said MP Bathiudeen is currently being held at the Colombo Magazine Prison and the incident has taken place inside the dispensary where patients were being examined. “A prison doctor has lodged a complaint with the Commissioner-General of Prisons, the Inspector General of Police and the Medical Director regarding the obstruction to his duty, insults and death threats posed by Bathiudeen while he is being held in the prison. The doctor was threatened with death, the spokesman said.
