Rs. 73.2Bn supplementary estimate to cover pandemic expenses

The government yesterday presented to Parliament a supplementary estimate of Rs. Rs 73.2 billion to be spent to cover the expenses related to the pandemic.

Through the supplementary estimate which was presented to the House by Chief Government Whip Johnston Fernando, the government seeks the approval of the House to spend for the pandemic related matters in all 25 districts including the North and the East. The government seeks to spend extra funds for the COVID treatment centres, to provide relief to those who are under quarantine and for the pandemic affected people.


 Also, the government seeks approval of Parliament to spend more funds for relief to fishermen to allocate Rs 8.04 billion to settle bills with regard to the extension of Southern Highway from Matara to Hambantota. A sum of Rs 26 million is to be spent on the Sooriyawewa international cricket stadium.


 The Government also sought approval to spend Rs 8.8 million to improve the building of the State Ministry of Coconut, Kithul, Palmyra and Rubber Cultivation Promotion and Related Industrial Product Manufacturing and Export Diversion.
