SC judgement on economic crisis; recovery process must start now: Sumanthiran

Claiming that the Rajapaksa brothers have enough money parked outside the country to pay the 22 million people in this country if compensation had been ordered by the Supreme Court, TNA MP M.A. Sumanthiran said the recovery process must start now, from those who had been held responsible for the economic crisis.

He told Parliament that the country’s economy can be revived just from the money parked by the Rajapaksa brothers outside the country.

“All the money parked outside the country can be brought in. The country’s economy can be revived just on that money. The country’s economy collapsed because public money had been stolen by the then President, his brothers and several others who worked with them,” he said.

The MP said what the Supreme Court should have done is to have ordered them to pay compensation to every citizen of this country and bring the stolen money into the Treasury so as to revive the country’s economy.

He said every citizen of this country is entitled to demand a compensation and ask them to bring back the stolen money and make the economy bounce back again.
