SJB MP Nalin Bandara Jayamaha confirmed yesterday that he and his wife have been tested COVID-19 positive. Mr. Jayamaha told Daily Mirror that he and his wife were informed that their PCR tests were positive. “Doctors have advised my two sons also to go through PCR tests,” he said. 

MP Jayamaha is the third SJB MP to become COVID-19 positive during the past few days while Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa and Mujibur Rahman were tested positive a few days ago. 

However, both Mr. Premadasa, his wife and Rahman who are being treated in a private hospital in Colombo are said to be on the road to recovery. Serjeant-at-arms Narendra Fernando told Daily Mirror that around 15 SJB MPs have been asked to go through PCR tests after Mr. Premadasa was found positive. “We told them to go through PCR tests as a safety measure but some of them have done it too early,” he said. 

Meanwhile, SJB Ranjith Madduma Bandara had advised the Opposition Leader’s office at No 30 Marcus Fernando Mawatha to be closed as a precautionary measure. However, a spokesman from the Opposition Leader’s office said no one has been asked to go through PCR tests as Mr. Premadasa has not come to the office for a few days.
