SJB calls for neutralism on Gaza strip conflict as its members take sides

While the main opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) yesterday stressed that Sri Lanka should take a neutral stand on Gaza strip conflict despite its members had begun to take sides and had participated in pro Palestine protests in Colombo.   


“Sri Lanka should not support any party involved in fighting in the Gaza strip and see that adverse effects it might have to suffer is minimal. Sri Lanka should focus on its own agenda especially when it comes to the economy,” MP Eran Wickramaratne told a press conference. 

“Sri Lanka should see that the effects of the conflict has on its economy is minimal,” he said.   


However Former MP Mujibur Rahaman who was seen at a pro Palestine rally held in Colombo recently. “Israel is a nation which was created by the West to fulfill its interests in the Middle East. Israel also tries to control Palestine,” he said while keeping a placard which said ‘Free Palestine’.   


Commenting on Rahaman’s actions Wickramaratne said SJB has only one stand as a political party though its members might hold other ideas.
