The electricity bill plaguing the historic Mihintale Temple has been resolved through the financial backing of Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) party members and donors, its leader Sajith Premadasa said. Mr. Premadasa has delivered a stern reminder to the government about the paramount importance of safeguarding places of worship from undue disturbance.

The ancient Mihintale Temple, once graced by Arahath Mahinda, had been grappling with financial distress.

Underscoring the potency of collective commitment, the SJB orchestrated a rapid response, amassing a substantial Rs 4.1 million. This pooled contribution promptly erased the temple’s electricity debt. Premadasa articulated an unwavering duty to uphold institutions like Mihintale, pivotal in shaping the bedrock of Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage.
