The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) yesterday condemned the remarks made by former Governor Azath Salley that the Muslims will only respect the Sharia Law and Quran and other laws in the country is not relevant to them.
SJB MP Gayantha Karunatilleka told a press conference that his party is fully opposed to this and also criticised the statement made by a Government minister.
“We also condemn the remarks made by a minister that temporal law is a personal law,” he said.
Also, he said his party will come up with an official stand on the banning of headgear Burqa shortly after studying the situation.
“There are many members of our party and an individual cannot make an official statement on behalf of the party. Therefore, we have to discuss and come out with an official stand,” the MP said. Meanwhile, on a different note Mr. Karunatilleka called for the setting up of a special presidential commission to probe the sugar scam, which include accepted persons and for the conducting of a forensic audit on the same.
