SJB has informed IMF that they will increase public servants’ salaries - Madduma Bandara

A future administration under Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa will grant a 24 percent salary hike for public servants and it has already been informed to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara said yesterday.   

MP Madduma Bandara told a press conference that a future SJB government will also establish a Rs 55 000 minimum wage for public servants.   

“We have already spoken to IMF and informed them that we will increase salaries of public servants. We have told IMF that wages for the public sector is hardly sufficient,” he said.   “We will also introduce a system where promotions will be given to public servants on merit and efficiency. Also we will make public servants technology savvy and competent with modern technology,” he added.   

“We will also depoliticize the public service,” he also said.   

He said an SJB government will hold the Provincial Council election and activate the Provincial Councils once again.
