Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) yesterday said its protest rally in Colombo today will be a beginning of a common struggle to overthrow the government, and it tendered an open invitation to all political parties, clergy, artistes and other groups to join it.

The open invitation was made by a group of SJB MPs including National Organizer Tissa Attanayake, Manusha Nanayakkara, S. M. Marikkar and Nalin Bandara Jayamaha at a media briefing yesterday.
“We have tendered an open invitation to all political parties including the UNP led by former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. He will be compelled to join us in our struggle as there will be no other option left,” MP Jayamaha said.
“We have been informed that there is a plan to stop the buses which are plying through highways and subject the passengers to checks just to frighten them,” MP. Marikar said.

“SJBers are even prepared to walk towards Colombo even if there are no diesel to run buses,” Nanayakkara said.
Attanayake said the party will reveal the place its members are to assemble today.

The SJB MPs said the only option left is to overthrow the government and reject the idea of forming a national government. The MPs said the national government proposal and the All Party Conference are just political dramas.

“We are yet to receive an invitation for an All Party Conference and we will decide whether we are going to participate in it only after we receive an official invitation,” said Attanayake.
