• SJB hopes to get the support of a few other political parties

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) is in a position to form a new government by getting the support of a few other political parties, an MP representing the party said yesterday.  

SJB MP Ashok Abeysinghe told a media briefing that his party is in a position to form a government with the agreement of a few other parties with the premiership of current Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa.  
“We can get some parties to support us to form a government and we appeal to those concerned to allow us to go ahead,” he added. He however applied a condition under which he said that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa should come up with a time frame within which he will resign from his post.  

“This government has not been able to resolve the crisis situation in the country. The presidency is being held by a person who is being asked to resign from his post by the people and the premiership is held by someone who has been rejected by the people already,” he added.  

Referring to the recent incident in Kandaikadu prison Mr. Abeysinghe said it is possible that the inmates were allowed to leave as it is difficult to provide them with adequate facilities.
